Blood & Gore

Still thinking about Halloween....Andrew and I haven't practiced our dead mime make-up yet. I'm thinking tonight we might rent a scary movie and watch it while perfecting our make-up technique. The mime part is pretty easy - white face paint with black pencil. But the blood and gore required for a maimed mine....that may take some practice. I want to do a gorey slashed throat for myself and a big open head wound for Andrew. As for the bloody make-up....I was thinking I'd just run over to a local costume shop and pick up the "bottle o' blood & guts" or whatever you use. But then we starting talking about making the blood and gore ourselves. There's lots of recipes on the web. The basic gist seems to be:

For blood: Combine red food color and corn syrup.

For blood and gore: Use red food color, corn syrup and chunky peanut butter or cornmeal or oatmeal. (ewww!)

For scars and sores: Combine pink or green face tissue with corn syrup and food coloring.

Has anyone tried this before?
