The Enchanted Closet

This morning I went downtown to an orientation for an event that I'm volunteering at next weekend. There is a program in Atlanta called The Enchanted Closet and they help outfit disadvantaged local girls with appropriate clothes for college interviews, job interviews and....the really fun part...prom dresses for their junior and senior proms. The Enchanted Closet people have been collecting donated formal dresses and next weekend they will hold their Prom Dress Giveaway to help outfit approximately 700 girls with a prom gown. The girls pay a $5 handling fee and get to go shopping for a formal dress, shoes, jewelry, make-up, the works.

I've donated many of my old college formals and my bridesmaids dresses and I will be helping next weekend at the boutique, working as a personal shopper on Friday night and Sunday afternoon. Each girl that goes to the event is assigned a personal shopper that works with them one on one, surveying the racks for potential dresses, helping her try them on, and helping find the perfect shoes and accessories to match. I am so freaking excited about this. I think it is an amazing program and the orientation this morning just made me even more excited. The founders of the Enchanted Closet described the event as hard work but said that it was the best feeling, seeing a girl smile because she gets to wear the dress of her dreams for her prom. So exciting!
