Went to a bachelorette lingerie shower tonight.
After opening assorted nighties and cami/panty sets the bride-to-be opened a gift from a girl at the party who I don't know very well but have always thought to be the one of the most quiet, impassive people I've ever met. The bachelorette riffled through the gift bag and pulled out a bottle of Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur and a box of Saran Wrap. Whoah! As my friend Kimberly said this morning, "It's always the quiet ones...."
Second favorite moment from the gift-opening: One of the brides' family members was attending (I think maybe an older sister or an aunt?) and as she handed over her gift she said that she had picked out the top part and her 5-year old daughter had picked out the stuff on the bottom. She told us how strange it was to go shopping with a 5-year old for lingerie items and how she had to explain to her daughter that when grown-ups get married that it is customary to give the bride pretty underwear. Her daughter didn't really get the concept but helped her mom shop. Dawn lifted the box lid and pulled out a beautiful blue camisole and undies. We all oohed and ahhed. Then she pulled back the tissue paper for the second part of the gift, picked out by the 5-year-old. It was a pair of fuzzy bright blue slipper socks, which she thought Dawn would need because "she was going to get cold wearing the stuff that her mom picked out." I loved it. And then the third part, after deliberating over slipper socks she had apparently hightailed it over to the men's department and declared that Uncle Mike needed wedding underwear too. Dawn pulled out the last part of the gift, a pair of bright yellow Sponge Bob Square Pants pajama bottoms.
